How we measured it
Source. Open job postings published on the public job boards that 0 companies run on their own career sites (Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby). We refresh each company several times a day. This snapshot was taken October 14, 2026.
Scope. US-based and US-remote roles only. Postings that repeat the same title at the same company (for example, one role listed in 40 cities) count once. Roles need at least 25 distinct postings to appear.
How a skill counts. A posting “lists” a skill when its requirements or responsibilities mention it, matched against a curated dictionary of tools and skills (with synonyms, such as “Postgres” for PostgreSQL). Company descriptions, benefits and legal boilerplate are ignored. Soft skills are excluded because nearly every posting lists them.
Limits. This is not a census of the US job market. Companies that use these job-board systems skew toward tech, finance and healthcare employers, and skills missing from our dictionary aren’t counted. Shares describe how often employers mention a skill, not how important it is to the hire.
